My debut cookbook, Veneto: Recipes from an Italian Country Kitchen will be released on 6th July 2017.
The book is a collection of 100 lovingly compiled recipes inspired by the cuisine of my home region of Veneto, Italy. My intention wasn’t to create a compendium of Venetian recipes as much as to share a piece of my heritage and cast some light on this too-often overseen part of Italy through food. I hope you’ll enjoy reading the stories as much as trying the recipes.
I wrote, tested, styled and photographed all the recipes between 2015 and 2016, then travelled around Veneto to capture some of my favourite corners of this wonderful and largely undiscovered region so that they could make their way into the pages of the book. I’d like to think that Veneto strikes a balance between food and landscape imagery. After all, they both contribute to telling the story.
Veneto is published worldwide (in English) by Guardian Faber, a publishing imprint by Faber & Faber and The Guardian. I had the pleasure of working with a stellar editorial and marketing team at Faber & Faber and with talented Anna Green as my book designer, who translated my vision into the most beautiful, clean and airy page layout.

Praise for Veneto
“Valeria Necchio writes with such heart about regional home cooking and the kind of food values that allow for both tradition and change. Veneto is as simple as it is inspirational, and I look forward to cooking from this beautiful new Italian cookbook.”
Alice Waters, Chef-Owner of Chez Panisse
“Veneto celebrates an unsung part of Italy’s vast food culture with a peek into generations-old family recipes and the right combination of old favourites and new flavours, all documented beautifully in photographs and words that take you right beside the writer to the Venetian countryside.”
Emiko Davies, Food Writer, Food52 Columnist and Author of Florentine and Acquacotta
“Valeria lets you in on the region’s secrets and there is a beauty and sincerity to her writing that is quite rare. Refreshingly real and full of simple everyday pleasures that we can all share.”
Rachel Roddy, Food Writer, Guardian Columnist and Author of Five Quarters
